Hit The Ground Running: This was the first album I recorded with Steve Phillips, of Rainmakers and Elders fame. Every time I revisit one of these songs, I am overwhelmed by the beautiful additions he made to my little songs. I remember him telling me after recording the guitar solo for Hey Man: "All of your songs are so sad." Thank you, Steve Phillips!

This episode spotlights Kansas City Musician Jason Beers. In addition to being a talented musician, Jason is the creator of an entire stable full of characters who, after being born in his head, live and perform under the benevolent umbrella of "Quilt" Records label. The "Quilt Records Family" is ever so slightly reminiscent of the good old SCTV Network and its fun, slightly unhinged characters.
But we don't stop there: we cover Sasquatch, Rollercoasters, Gorilla Suits and much more.
Featured Banjo Tune: Apacotacojoco from the album East Virginia Banjo Tunes
Featured LL song: Out On The Edge from her Hit The Ground Running album

LL describes her latest bird obsession - Grackles, and unearths many unsolicited facts about them. Birds in general get a nod; we get grossed out by fecal sacs; Mony waxes scientific about Forest Bathing, Prairie Bathing and the ability of cacti to "throw" needles.

Laura Lisbeth claims that our body sends us messages but we don't listen.. Later, she and her sister Simone, aka Mony, are contemplating shame and the way it can make us care too much. We really want to not care so much. Laura declares that she will no longer be shamed. Their journey takes them to the days of Catholic School and their experiences with the nuns.
Mony does a great impression of Fred Armisen's "Joy Behar" and muses about the way we censor ourselves sometimes, instead of trying out new creative things.
Featured track: Jimmy Lee and the Moon, from the album "Hit the Ground Running." Available at lauralisbeth.com

Kicking the episode off with a Charles Bukowski quote, Laura Lisbeth seeks to find the earliest version of herself. LL and Simone (aka Mony Baloney) explore their earliest musical influences, and share some anecdotes from others, many of whose first influences came from their parents.
Mony expresses her love of vinyl and all things analog. Laura searches for a transistor radio on line, in preparation for the Apocalypse.

Singer-Songwriter Laura Lisbeth muses that life changes have brought new fears. Mony & Laura talk about bugs that torment middle-of-the-mappers, and how they arrive via the Bug Highway. This launches a discussion about stink bugs, Asian Lady Beetles, ladybugs, cockroaches, and brown recluse spiders.
Some childhood fear of bugs is explored, as well as how siblings take advantage of those fears and use them to traumatize their sisters; Laura shares the true story of where Mayonnaise comes from
Mony recommends that we should not clean up any clutter.
Featured Song: Redemption, by Laura Lisbeth from the album "Hit the Ground Running." Vocals: Laura Lisbeth Acoustic Guitar & 12-String Guitar: Steve Phillips
